Steve Nance, Director of Performance" Training the elite is no different to training the general public - everyone needs some motivation and help. And when they get the results they are working hard for, whether it is a medal, a personal best or just some weight loss, this is where I get my reward." Steve is a Strength and Conditioner with over twenty years’ experience working in the field. In that time he has worked in rugby with the Australian Wallabies, Queensland Reds and Clermont Ferrand in France, in rugby league with the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Cowboys in the NRL, and also with hockey, rowing and triathlon. He is currently the Head of Performance at Fulham Football Club. Steve studied initially at the University of Sydney before completing his Masters at the University of Texas. He has also been the author of numerous publications and lectures internationally. He notes his career highlights to be:
And his academic highlights to be “just getting through my first degree at Sydney University and then graduating with straight A’s for my Masters.”
“Sport and exercise have been important to me throughout my life. I was never overly talented but always worked hard, especially at the physical side of things - where an edge can definitely be gained. I consider myself fortunate to earn a living from this pursuit and have enjoyed learning so much about physical preparation, but there is still so much more to know.
Training the elite is no different to training the general public - everyone needs some motivation and help. And when they get the results they are working hard for, whether it is a medal, a personal best or just some weight loss, this is where I get my reward.
My main goal is to continue to be involved in elite sport but also to develop my business as well. Basically I like to be challenged and stimulated, and Pure has certainly been able to do this for me in the past 2 years.
I have been very fortunate to have been supported by my wife Anne and three very motivated children, Phoebe, Jon and Mizpah. My favourite saying is 'tough times don’t last; tough people do', and my interests and hobbies include all sports, hunting wild pig, fishing, and most of all keeping fit. I am also partial to a beer and appreciate fine wines”. |
