"I am proud of the collective determination that has transformed what was originally an academic exercise into a vehicle that has seen us genuinely help people"

Mike has a Degree in Geography and an MBA, both from Oxford University. Prior to joining Pure, he worked as a business strategy consultant with Accenture. Mike is the co-founder of Pure Sports Medicine and has been instrumental in the transition of idea to viable concept, and concept to reality.

“As you can see from my brief above, my path into the Medical field is hardly a classic one. I left the security of Accenture to help set-up and run the operational side of Pure’s services. Providing high quality healthcare services and supporting the growth of a strong and vibrant Sports & Exercise Medicine community has always been foremost in our vision, and this was worth taking risks and working hard for. I am proud of the collective determination that has transformed what was originally an academic exercise into a vehicle that has seen us genuinely help people.

Sport is unscripted. It provides spontaneity in an otherwise ‘planned’ world. I find myself deriving a sense of freedom from playing or watching sport, transported away from the grind. Sport and exercise also provide a mechanism to release and experience emotions, individually or as a group.

Being physically fit is something that I struggled to maintain over my time in the corporate world. During this time I struggled with back and shin problems, but I convinced myself that ‘I was always too busy to sort it out’. Having recently focused on resolving my injury worries (I know some good people) and by focusing on lifestyle and nutrition, I am now starting to enjoy the benefits of sport & exercise again. I am the “weekend warrior” type of sportsman; not wonderfully talented, but competent enough. I have mostly been involved with rugby, skiing, golf and rowing.

Above all, I am the proud father of two beautiful children - one boy one girl. I always want to be a ‘young dad’, and in 5-6 years time I want to be crossing that sports day finishing line in front!”
