Leah Dunthorne, Performance Coach

“Although my background is predominantly elite sport, I enjoy working with anyone who is motivated to achieve their goals (whether they are health, rehab or sports related) regardless of age or ability”

Leah is a certified NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist with a First Class BSc and an MSc in Sports Science from Loughborough University. For the past 8 years Leah has worked as a Performance / Strength and Conditioning Coach to elite and professional athletes in a wide variety of sports including rugby, hockey, netball, rowing and cricket.  Leah spent two years as Strength and Conditioning coach at Saracens Rugby Club, working extensively with the Senior and Academy squads. Prior to this, Leah worked as a Strength and Conditioning coach at both the Welsh and Australian Institutes of Sport. Alongside her work at Pure Sports Medicine, she currently works for the English Institute of Performance coach to England U21, U18 and U16 hockey squads.

Leah specialises in sport-specific conditioning for teams and individuals, presenting applied Strength and Conditioning workshops and providing end stage Rehabilitation and full Reconditioning from injury.

“I have always had a passion for sport and fitness and only discovered at university that I could pursue this passion as a career. I was lucky enough to get involved with the Strength & Conditioning of the Leicester Tigers when I was still a student. I enjoyed the variety of conditioning that was involved in Rugby and was impressed with the dynamic and progressive environment where the coaches and players recognised the important role of Strength & Conditioning in producing a robust, physically dominant and ultimately successful team. I really enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team, in which physios, doctors, nutritionists, coaches, Strength & Conditioners and the athlete themselves all work closely together to achieve a common goal. It is was great to be involved in the process of rehabilitating and reconditioning a player after a serious injury and watching that player work their way back into the starting 15.

Although my background is predominantly elite sport, I enjoy working with anyone who is motivated to achieve their goals (whether they are health, rehab or sports related) regardless of age or ability. I get a kick out of seeing the impact that sport and exercise can have on people’s lives in terms of both their physical and psychological wellbeing.

I like to think of myself as a positive, fun-loving, enthusiastic, friendly and motivated person in all spheres of my life. I have always been extremely sporty and active and have competed at an international level in football, recreationally in triathlon and cricket, and recently completed the ‘fun run’ otherwise known as the London marathon. Being a Welsh girl I also like to brave the arctic Welsh waters during the summer months for a surf."
