“Working with elite athletes provides a special edge to what we do in sports medicine.”

Eric holds a degree in Physiotherapy, a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy, and is a titled Australian Physiotherapy Association Sports Physiotherapist with eight years of clinical experience.  He has worked with elite and non-elite sports people across many sports, and has a particular interest in rugby, football, running, cycling, rowing and sailing – most recently he was team physiotherapist with the Australian Sailing Team.

“I am passionate about sports and physiotherapy and am excited to be able to explore a career in both. During my studies, I was fortunate enough to spend time in the sports medicine facilities at the Australian Institute of Sport. There, the team focus was on doing everything possible to ensure the injured athlete achieved an optimal recovery and return to performance. This experience ignited my passion for providing the absolute best injury management one can, whether to the elite athlete at the top of their game, the serious competitor, or the recreationally active person.

Working with elite athletes provides a special edge to what we do in sports medicine. To achieve success on the sporting field takes great commitment, ambition and effort. Being around people who are driven to succeed and who aren’t happy to settle for average is rewarding and motivating in itself, but to have an active role in achieving that success brings a great sense of pride to what I do.

I enjoy treating a variety of injuries and have a keen interest in hamstring and other muscle injuries, as well as the rehabilitation of knee, ankle and shoulder injuries, particularly following surgery. The end stages of rehabilitation (working on the preparation for return to competition and the prevention of re-injury) especially excite me as I believe that to do a job properly, one needs to be working towards 100% recovery.

I have always been a keen and competitive participant in sports and outdoor activities, and am always keen to experience sports that are new to me. I keep myself active by running and cycling, and have completed three marathons. Outside of sports, I’m interested in how people interact through politics, culture and history. I love to travel and meet people from diverse backgrounds, and find it hard to resist good food and wine.”
