Dan Lewindon, Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist“An injury can represent the opportunity to recover optimal function and improve an individual’s robustness and performance for the future” Dan graduated from Nottingham University in 2000, with BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. He then went on to spend three years working for the NHS. Here he gained valuable experience in all areas of Physiotherapy, before seeking expertise in his chosen field of Sports Medicine. In 2003, Dan Northampton Saints RFC joined as a physiotherapist, working full-time with the Senior Team which led to his progression to Head Physiotherapist in 2008. In 2007 Dan completed an MSc in Sports Medicine at Queen Mary's University of London and was an invited speaker at the 2007 RFU Medical Conference. Dan was appointed Senior Team Physiotherapist for the England Rugby Team in 2009 and is also currently studying for a second Masters in Exercise Science, from Edith Cowan University, Australia. In spite of his hectic schedule, Dan conducts regular sessions at Pure, when not in camp or touring with the England Team. "I was always a keen sportsman in my youth and was keen to pursue some aspect of this as a career. Inevitably as a rugby player I suffered several injuries and was fortunate to be on the receiving end of some great physiotherapy, which to the relief of my parents, led me to choose this as my career. From the outset my goal was to work within a sports setting and my prior experience with rugby teams made this the perfect environment for me. I was fortunate during my time in the NHS to have a great peer group (including my wife, Charlotte) who inspired me to achieve everything I could. Working for the England Rugby Team and being part of a leading performance department is an incredible honour and continues to motivate me every day. That said, I also really enjoy the variety that private practice brings. I always aim to ensure a thorough diagnosis of the problem and its cause through careful examination, and to explore all potential contributing factors with the aim of preventing a future recurrence. Injury presents the opportunity to restore optimal function and also to maximise robustness and performance for the future. I think this mindset is equally applicable to both the elite athlete and the weekend warrior. Through my work I have developed a particular interest in shoulder, trunk and lower limb injuries, but as with all my colleagues at Pure, enjoy the variety that Physiotherapy bring. Away from work, I am a keen golfer and enjoy spending what little free time I have with my wife at our home in the East Midlands." |
