Amanda Lau - Sports Podiatrist

‘This part of the body is often misunderstood as to the importance it plays with the rest of the body.  But it is the only part of the body to make contact with every step we take.  If they did not function to 100%, we would have difficulty with performing our day to day tasks’

Amanda completed her podiatry degree in Melbourne, Australia.  Her main passion lies with Sports Podiatry.  She has worked alongside foot and ankle surgeons in Melbourne, with the rehabilitation of Australian Football, Track and Field, Basketball players, The Australian Defence force, and ballet.

She has had the privilege of treating GB Olympic Athletes, Premiership league football players, English rugby, Test cricketers and the Royal Air Force during her time in the UK.

Amanda has also spent 5 years working for Nike Australia, working as a Technical advisor for the head office, and educating retail, medical and allied health staff on the foot biomechanics and function of footwear.  More recently she has been involved with Nike UK, as a consultant presenting to various medical and allied health practitioners around the UK and Ireland.

Footwear plays a significant role in the recovery of patients’ injury, and it is often an underestimated part of the rehabilitation process.  Amanda has spent many years conducting training and education sessions for the staff working in footwear retail stores in Australia and New Zealand on the importance of fitting customers in with the right footwear.

‘Many people ask me why I chose to become a podiatrist, and the answer would have to be that I enjoy a challenge.  This part of the body is often misunderstood as to the importance it plays with the rest of the body.  But it is the only part of the body to make contact with every step we take.  If they did not function to 100%, we would have difficulty with performing our day to day tasks’

Sports Medicine is still a developing area in the United Kingdom, and an even more exciting place to be part of with the upcoming Olympics.

Whilst I miss my family and friends back home, and of course the weather and the beach, I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such a group of talented and dynamic individuals.
