Alison Dicks, Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist

“I feel very strongly about the importance of exercise in health promotion and disease prevention.”

Alison graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from “Wits” University in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1998. She has subsequently also completed a Masters degree in Advanced Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy at University College London. She has spent most of her career working in private practice in London, gaining experience in the management of a wide range of sports and musculoskeletal conditions.

Alison’s special interests are the treatment of lower limb injuries and work related spinal conditions. She has a particular interest in running and athletic injuries.

“I feel very strongly about the importance of exercise in health promotion and disease prevention. Exercise is key to the prevention and management of many chronic diseases including diabetes, mental health disorders, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Unfortunately our modern day lifestyle sees many of us spending long days sitting at a desk hunched over a keyboard. This predicament results in a large number of posture related aches and pains, which either impacts on our sport and exercise enjoyment and performance, or discourages us from participation completely.

As a physiotherapist, I am privileged to be in a prime position to educate people and support them through making changes towards a healthier lifestyle. For the converted who already love their sport and exercise, I love being able to help them through their injuries, and return them to their chosen sport as quickly as possible.

I am very passionate about musculoskeletal medicine and actively keep up to date with developments in the field. I enjoy travel, the great outdoors, and am always eager to take on new challenges. My main sport is running, and my most exciting sporting moment was crossing the finishing line of the London Marathon. I am a strong believer in the philosophy of “work hard, play hard”!
