Eoghan Murray , Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist
“I believe sport is a positive proactive vessel in which to promote exercise, health and well being. I have always been fascinated with the biomechanics and movement of the body and by the mechanism of injury, this becomes a passion when in the context of sport.”
Eoghan graduated from the University of Liverpool with a BSc (hons) degree in Physiotherapy. He has since worked predominantly in the North-West in both the NHS and private setting, specialising in musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. Eoghan has a keen interest in the lower limb; specifically the groin and knee. He gained his MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Barts and The London. “This is a proud academic achievement; which was both challenging but an enjoyable and a fruitful experience professionally and personally. This improved my breath of knowledge and enhanced my clinical skills. My research paper on golf injury has since been published. I have worked across the spectrum of athletes from elite level through to recreational in athletics football, golf and triathlon. I am always trying to improve as a clinician, to further my scope of practice, to contribute latest evidence based practice in the management of sporting injury. I believe sport is a positive proactive vessel in which to promote exercise, health and well being. I have always been fascinated with the biomechanics and movement of the body and by the mechanism of injury, this becomes a passion when in the context of sport. I also believe the approach to an athlete reflects my attitude to sports medicine, that it is a team sport. The skills of a sport’s clinician must match and reflect that of the athlete, the same principles apply; attitude, commitment and attention to detail. I feel it is important to educate and empower the athlete to prevent recurrence. It is also important to me to ‘know’ an athletes sport, having personally endured many sporting injuries, I have a real sense of empathy with my patients, it is this which has nurtured my interest in sports injuries. I believe in a dynamic philosophy to patient care, commitment to delivering proficient, first class, evidence based treatment to patients across the whole spectrum, from elite to recreational level. I value the importance of the multi-disciplinary team, mutual respect and regard for each member and awareness that each individual’s role is integral to the holistic management of each patient. This holistic approach to the patient is my appeal, from the prevention, rehabilitation and return to play, along with the psychology involved for each individual athlete. I have a real passion for sport. I am a keen all round sportsman,
with interests in football, golf, skiing, marathon/triathlon. I was selected
as crew member on The Clipper Round The World Yacht Race and am a Guinness
world record holder; for the ‘Fastest marathon ever undertaken tied together’.
