“I am passionate about working with patients to help them understand how they became injured, and using a team approach and the wide-ranging services available at Pure, helping them through a proper rehabilitation.”

Cath is a Sports Physician and a GP, and trained in sports medicine at Bath University. She has been working with a wide range of people involved at all levels of sport since 2000. She was a Sports Physician at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, has extensive experience in marathon medicine, is a lecturer in Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation at Bangor University in Wales, and a clinical tutor at Bath University. She has been a sports medicine advisor to several television productions, such as ‘Run for Glory’, and she regularly writes for the sports publication, ‘220 Triathlon’.

More recently, she has been working with the GB Rowing Squad and Military Sportsmen and Sportswomen, but a decade of living in Snowdonia has also fuelled a passion for being involved in sports that take place in the ‘great outdoors’, such as rock climbing, paragliding, kayaking, kite surfing and mountain biking. She is also involved in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of hip sports injuries, working alongside Mr Richard Villar, a leading hip arthroscopy orthopaedic surgeon.

Through her work with Bangor University, she has gained experience in exercise for people with medical problems, such as rheumatoid arthritis and obesity. She is keen to help people who are wanting to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle, or those who have previously shied away from sport and activity, perhaps because of their size, fitness level or a history of joint problems. The sports of particular interest to her are running, triathlon, extreme and adventure sports, swimming and scuba.

“When I moved to live in Snowdonia in 1996, I was horribly unfit from my former sedentary lifestyle. Surrounded by mountains to climb and beautiful beaches to play on, I took up running to get fit, but became injured through my ignorance of footwear and training. This sparked my interest in sports medicine, which rapidly grew and has become my chosen profession. I am passionate about working with patients to help them understand how they became injured, and using a team approach and the wide-ranging services available at Pure, helping them through a proper rehabilitation. I enjoy working with all levels of sports men and women, whether they are world-class, or just taking their first steps towards fitness.

I am a keen ‘mere mortal’ marathon runner, and enjoy long-distance triathlon. I live in Greenwich with my wonderful and supportive husband, Jules. We share a love of exploring the countryside, and cooking together.”
