“Physiotherapy is a balance between the therapist giving the right advice and treatment and the individual taking responsibility for themselves in helping their recovery. It is an important team effort and the more you put in the more you get out!!”

“I was always a very keen sportsman when I was growing up, and I saw physiotherapy as the best way to keep involved with sports at an elite level. Having graduated from Kings College London in 1999 I was very fortunate to start my working career at Crystal Palace Football Club. I initially started working with the youth team but moved up to work with the first team. After 3 years I decided to pursue my academic career and went to Australia to complete my Masters in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland. This was a fantastic experience both academically and personally and allowed me to further appreciate the complexities of the human body together with the ways in which we can restore optimal function.

I found working with footballers to be an invaluable experience. Treating individuals who are desperate to return to sports and are totally committed to hard work is very inspiring. I became aware of how important it is to keep elite athletes in top condition, and the importance of being meticulous in their rehabilitation. During my time in Australia I primarily focused on the everyday individual. It is hugely rewarding to help people manage their everyday aches and pains, and allow them to restore a more normal pain free life. Seeing a wide variety of patients is vital to providing new challenges to our practice and it still amazes me as to what the human body is capable of doing.

Physiotherapy is an extremely rewarding profession to be in. Pain can have a huge effect on people’s lives both physically and socially. It is satisfying to see the effect of physiotherapy in improving a patients well being and quality of life. Sometimes all that is needed is simple advice on changing everyday activity and we are in a privileged position to offer this advice. I enjoy treating a wide variety of conditions however I have a keen interest in treating injuries relating to the neck, including whiplash and also knee and ankle injuries.

I have always been extremely competitive both socially and academically. Whether it’s competing at a high level or simply playing pool with friends, I always want to win. I take this trait into my work and always want to achieve the highest possible standards. I am extremely fortunate to have a very supportive wife and family. In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym and playing football and golf.
