Work related injuries are a common problem, with large amounts of people working at desks for extended periods of time. The most common problems we see are: RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) and WRULD (Work Related Upper Limb Disorder).
Both of these conditions are similar, but WRULD encompasses problems more directly related to the working environment, such as posture and repetitive activities, rather than a direct strain or injury. Due to their expertise in musculoskeletal function and movement, our Sports Medicine Specialists are well placed to analyse and advise on improving your work environment.
We are concerned with the overall management of this problem, including recognising the factors which have caused the developing symptoms. More often than not, this is related to repetitive tasks such as typing, mouse work and poor posture.
Treatment by a Sports Doctor, Physiotherapist or Osteopath may include spinal mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, neural tissue mobilisation, postural muscle strengthening, and sometimes non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Our objective is to identify the tissue under strain, determine the cause, treat the condition and address the cause, so that we can prevent it from reoccurring.
