Sports Podiatry deals with pain and injuries related to biomechanical function in the lower limbs. Often this includes problems with the: arch, heel, big toe, shin, iliotibial band, knee, and more. Our Podiatrists can also advise on insoles, footwear, exercise and running techniques.
By assessing a patient’s biomechanical structure, using a range of techniques, including gait analysis, a Podiatrist is able to identify if a patient’s injury is caused by poor structural alignment or function. Some of the advice and treatment options included in Podiatry are: footwear advice and modification, insoles/orthotics, padding and taping, and stretching and strengthening advice.
It is possible during an initial appointment with our Podiatrists that custom-made orthotics can be prescribed. If this is the case, your appointment will be extended from 45 minutes to 60 minutes, in order for casting of your foot to be taken. These casts are then sent to the orthotics laboratory to be made, and take approximately 2-3 weeks to return.
Many health insurers will not cover Podiatry, so if you are hoping to claim through insurance we always recommend checking with your provider first.
